AGM – South East Counties Womens Football League
Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on July 19, 2009
In less that a year of Gillingham coming under a new management team GLFC have applied to SEWCFL to have a reserve team in there league.
The application has been accepted, and now GLFC need to be voted in by the other teams into the league at the AGM. The AGM is this coming Tuesday 23rd June at Horley Town F.C in Sussex.
Surely a formality, well at most other AGM’s it is however Director of Football Martin Andrews is a bit wary “I think one or two teams in the league will object because who we are, and there is history of players coming to us from teams in the league, only this season we clashed with a couple of teams when there players approached us for trials. However this is a natural progression for us, in able for us to really kick on we need a quality squad and the only way you can have that is if everyone is playing each week”
The reserves team will be managed by Sean Edwards.
Martin also quashed any rumours that they are using the SEWCFL for a season or two.
“Its true or ambitions are to get promoted, and we set an ambitious target of being promted this season to the Southern Premiership, with this it means we have to have a reserve team in the Southern Prem reserve league aswell.”
“However this will mean we can then plan and progress our development side even further by bringing in a 3rd team specifically for the girls leaving the Centre Of Excellence to learn there trade against women before being pushed stright into the Reserves Prem to which is a massive step”
