Gillingham Ladies have strengthened their team further by capturing Tottenham Hotspur captain Kelly Herrett. Kelly is a strong commanding centre back that caught Gillingham’s eye last season when she put in two excellent performances against the Gills. Gills have shown ambition recently by signing Charlton’s Natalie Crinean, and this ambition has persuaded Kelly to travel from Enfield to join the Gills. Kelly confessed “I am looking forward to a new challenge and playing in in a strong squad who have the ambition to do great things this season and in the future”
Gills Director of Football Martin Andrews explained ” Kelly is a fantastic experienced player that we are happy to have signed, for her to be travelling the distance to join us shows we doing something big, We have also added a lot more quality to the team over the Summer, its not just Nat & Kelly that’s come in, we have brought in a lot of very experienced ladies that was playing in the Premiership but dropped out for one reason or another. However we still have got a couple of big signings up our sleeve that we are hoping will work out for us.”
To show the depth of the team, a young Gills team stunned Charlton Athletic in there first pre-season game by drawing 0-0, that game was Sean Edwards first game in charge of a Gills team, and he along with Manager Ian Varley fielded a team that had just four players that have played as high as the Combination League, with most of the players coming from up from the Centre Of Excellence. Charlton fielded a team of first teamers and reserve players.
Next Week Gillingham have two matches going on, one team will be playing Braintree Town whilst the other team will be playing Fireman as they take on a team from Kent Fire & Rescue at there HQ in Maidstone.
