First Team
Gillingham 1-2 Lewes
Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on September 13, 2009
After playing teams off the park, the Gills knew that this would be there toughest test so far, and it certainly was as Gills suffered there first defeat of the season.
Lewes tactically got it spot on today as they out muscled Gills midfield and forced the Gills to do there shooting outside box.
Lewes scored first from a corner which left Katie Duffy with no chance, and with everyone now wondering how Gills would respond, they didnt, and within 10 minutes a back pass to Katie Duffy and her clearance went to Lewes who put it into the unguarded net.
Most of Gills chances came from the imagination of Ashlee Hincks but again Lewes forced her to perform outside the box.
Gills did get a bit of hope before halftime when Danni Farmer pulled one back.
Second half was much the same, Gills had a lot of possession outside the box but never really threatened the keeper.
To make things worse Lewes even missed a penalty when Kelly Herrett brought down a Lewes player in the box, however the penalty was struck well wide.
