Sunday Roundup:- Derby delighted for 1st Team & League favourites beaten by Reserves.

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on September 27, 2009

welwyn6An eventful afternoon for both the Gillingham Ladies sides, as the first team faced local side Ebbsfleet United at Stonebridge Road, whilst the reserves took on high-flying Milton & Fulstone at Lordswood FC.

The first team crept up to second in the league with an emphatic 5-0 victory. The Gills dominated the game and Vicky Ashton-Jones put them 1-0 up just before half time, but as the half time whistled loomed Danielle Farmer added the second of the match.

In the second half top scorer Ashlee Hincks got on the scoresheet, finishing well after from good work by Ashton-Jones. This goal effectively sealed the points, but Nat Crinean added another goal and Danielle Farmer added a fifth.

In fairness the Gills could have racked up even more.

Meanwhile the Reserves took on high flyers Milton & Fulston, who in there two previous games had scored 15 goals and conceded just two…

However after a few scares the Gills did take control of the match, with Kirsty Goodall who went close several times slotted in the first goal, and then Leanne Stevens struck a superb free kick to send the Gills in 2-0.

Second half was much the same as and Terri Reynolds finished the tie with another well taken free kick. However goal of the match was fromRachel Ahern as she went on a run from the midfield which ended her dispatching past the keeper in a one on one.

However the Gills then had Leanne Stevens harshly sent off when the ref gave her two consecutive yellow cards for dissent.

Despite playing the last 25 mins with 10 players, Milton’s consulation goal came when they had a ong range shot that hit the bar and keeper Jess Nunn was caught out of postion.

Final Score 2-0
