We’ve got a score to settle – Varley

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on October 21, 2009

ianvarley3Gillingham face one of their sternest tests of the season on Sunday when they travel to the only side to defeat them this season – third-placed Lewes – and Gillingham Ladies manager Ian Varley takes his team to the Dripping Pan with a point to prove.

“We’re really looking forward to the match on Sunday,” said Varley.

“We have a score to settle as they’re the only team who have beaten us this season.

“The defeat was just one of those games for us, we were missing five key players and it didn’t quite go for us on the day.

“To be fair to Lewes they played quite well but I’m not convinced they are consistent enough to be challenging for the league this season.

“I’m very confident we can go there and get the three points which will give us a great advantage at the top with games in hand.”

Varley revealed there will be late fitness tests on a few of his players, but said he will take his strongest possible squad to Lewes for the match, with midfielder Deanna Cooper, who missed the home match with Lewes earlier in the season, returning to the squad for Sunday’s game.
