It’s a great feeling – Varley

ianvarley2Goals from Ashlee Hincks (2), Natalie Crinean and Danni Farmer helped Gillingham Ladies ease to a comfortable away win against Lewes.

Speaking exclusively to the Gillingham Ladies official website, manager Ian Varley shared his views on Sunday’s 4-2 win against the side who beat them earlier in the season.

“I’m absolutely delighted with today’s result against a well organised Lewes team,” he explained.

“How they beat us earlier in the season I’ll never know but sometimes strange things happen in football.

“What was pleasing today is we controlled the game early on and got the all important first goal. The way Lewes set up with ten players behind the ball it means that if they go behind it’s difficult for them to get back into the game.

“From then on we pushed on without really getting out of second gear and we had a little discussion after as I weren’t happy with how we took our foot off the gas and let them back into it.

“We should have gone on and scored a lot more but I can’t complain as we scored four and got three points against a decent team and pretty much put them out of the title race.

“To be top of the league with games in hand is a great feeling for everyone and we go to Enfield next week full of confidence as we look to cement our place at the top.”
