Varley on reaching the Kent Cup Final

Manager Ian Varley was delighted to reach the Kent Cup final on Sunday afternoon after a well earned victory over Dartford.
Whilst it wasn’t his side’s best performance of the season, the experience and skill shone through as they scored eight goals and kept a clean sheet.
Reflecting on the win over local rivals Dartford after the match to CHRIS DICKETTS, he said: “In the first half I thought we were a little bit slow out of the blocks.
“Once we kicked on we scored a few good goals especially in the second half I thought we played really well and we stepped it up. As with last week when we step it up a gear we can kick on and score goals against anyone to be fair.”
Varley was surprised that his side scored after five minutes but that it took them almost half an hour to score again.
He added: “It did surprise me a bit because normally when we score one, we kick on and get more. To be fair to Dartford they battled quite well and set up defensively.
“They had five or six at the back and it was difficult to break them down, especially as we weren’t on our game in the first half.
“Once we got a few and the flood gates opened a bit in the second half then we kicked on and scored some good goals.
“We can change it about a little bit formation wise; it has worked now twice in two weeks. Sometimes people work out how we are going to play and we adapt to that. It worked out well in the end and we were never really tested in the second half.”
Ian was also quick to praise midfielder Danni Farmer who scored a well taken hat trick and is now really showing some good form for his side.
He added: “It was a good hat trick from Farms today and her last goal was absolute quality, it was a great chip.
“She is getting back to some form, and a bit of fitness now and she has now played the last three games and has scored six in them three games as well.”
The back four also did well against Dartford and Ian was pleased that they managed to keep a clean sheet as well.
He said: “I am very pleased that we have kept a clean sheet, to be fair they didn’t get anywhere near the goal in the game.
“It is pleasing especially as we played the last 15 minutes or so with ten players, I thought we defended well and Laura East did really well in there filling in for Bex. It was nice to keep a clean sheet as those are the type of teams that you have to keep a clean sheet against.”
