Cup final dates & last fixtures
Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on March 23, 2010
Gills Ladies are now into the final stretch as they battle it out for three trophies. The League, League Cup & The Kent Cup are the trophies that the Gills could win.
Thursday 25th March – Home v Ebbsfleet United
A mouthwatering Kent derby under the floodlights, the Gills are hoping for a big crowd to cheer them on. They won the previous encounter 5-0 , but Ebbsfleet have won their last two games back to back and are determined to finish the season on a high.
Sunday 28th March – Away v Enfield Town
This will be the fourth time the teams have met this season, with Gills winning all three, and it will be the 3rd time they have played away. Having already knocked Enfield Town out of the FA Cup (3-0) and the Semi Final of the League Cup (4-1). Both teams played out an entertaining 5-3 win for the Gills at Lordswood’s ground. Enfield will surely try and put a dent in the Gills promotion charge as they look to try and end their three game winless run against the Gills.
Sunday4th April – Away v Northampton Town
Gills travel to Northampton on Easter Sunday, with Northampton suffering a 4-0 defeat at Lordswood in October, the game that was featured on Merdian News. It will be a tough game for the Gills and Northampton felt hard done by as they thought all the Gills players was being paid to play. A common whisper that has frustrated the Gills this season.
Thursday 8th April -KENT CUP FINAL v MILLWALL
7:45pm at Sevenoaks Football Club
This is the first final of the season as Gills face National Premiership team Millwall, so it be a very interesting match. Millwall have played their reserves throughout the tournament, with them winning 2-1 against Charlton in the Semi Final. Can they really resist the temptation to use a few first teamers. Last season the two met in the Semi Final with Millwall winning 4-0 at Woodstock Park.
Sunday 11th April – Away v Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town have struggled since winning this league just two seasons ago, promotion led to instant relegation and they have struggled this season, their visit to Lordswood is memorable for all the wrong reasons. They disregarded the directions and looked at the league website just before setting off and ended up warming up at Woodstock Park, our home ground of last season. Obviously disgruntled they felt Gills had sent them to the wrong venue, they lost 5-1 as Ashlee bagged a brace and Natalie hit a hatrick.
Sunday 18th April – Away v Tottenham Hotspurs (T.B.C)
It will be the third meeting between the two clubs this season, and the venue for the League Cup final, Spurs have probably given Gills there toughest couple of games of the season, and have made the Gills work hard for their victories. In the League the Gills won 3-1 in front of a record crowd of 152, and a few weeks later in a flat game the Gills won 2-0. Spurs have one of the best defensive records in the league, so they will make Gills work very hard if they are to take the 3 points.
Sunday 25th April – Home v Norwich City
Just like the Star Wars trilogy, this becomes the Gills v Norwich Trilogy, as its the first time they face each other this season. They then face each other again the next two Sundays, as Norwich have become serious title contenders, however if both teams go into this match winning the remaining tie, the Gills can clinch the title by not losing, a defeat and it goes to the last game of the season. Last season the Gills lost the home league game to Norwich.
Sunday 2nd May
LEAGUE CUP FINAL v NORWICH CITY
2pm at Broxbourne Borough F.C (Tottenham home ground)
The second cup final, at Tottenhams ground in Hertfordshire. Ironically the Gills met Norwich in the 1/4 final of the league cup last season and the Gills shocked Norwich by winning 1-0
Sunday 9th May – Away v Norwich City
The last in the trilogy, one team will be triumphant, the other team will be wishing they had been struck down by a Light Sabre.
