Kirsty “We need to keep winning”

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on March 23, 2010

Kirsty Goodall is rightly extremely proud of her team mates and their achievements so far this season.

Goodall and her team mates are on something of an amazing unbeaten run at the moment, having not lost in the League this season, and narrowly going out on penalties to Whitehawk in the League Cup.

Talking about the way the Reserve team are playing at the moment to CHRIS DICKETTS, the attacking midfielder, said: “Yes, it’s really good that we are unbeaten at the moment. Not just for the results we are getting but we are also playing well as a team.

“I am really proud, since the start of pre-season there have been so many changes in both teams and I think we’ve done well to adapt and keep performing well.”

Kirsty got on the score sheet for the fourth time this season against Whitstable at the weekend, and is hoping to score more before the end of the season. She added: “I was really pleased to score against Whitstable; it has been a long time coming to be fair. “I don’t think i could possibly miss anymore shots! And I needed to make up for the penalty I sliced last week!

“I am definitely hoping to score more, hopefully I have opened the flood gates, and my aim is to be top goal scorer by the end of the season now, ha ha!” It is the first season that Kirsty has played out on the right wing and she admits it has taken some time to adapt, but she is enjoying her role now though. She said: “I am really enjoying playing out on the wing, it’s the first season I have played there and like to think I’m doing ok.

I see myself more as a goalkeeper though, just kidding Sean!” The Ladies have overcome a point’s deduction at the start of the season to sit top of the South East Counties Division One East, and Kirsty believes they have a good chance to finish the season on a high.

She added: “Yes, we do need to keep winning, we can’t slip up because of the points we had deducted at the start of the season, but as long as we keep performing as we have we should be fine.” In recent weeks the Reserve team have added Megan Cavell to their ranks and Jade Johnson who has made the drop to play with them from the first team.

Goodall believes that they can only have a positive influence on the team. “Yes, it was really good to have had Jade last week; she worked really well upfront with Kylie and always makes a difference when she plays. “Megan is a good player, she fits in well with the team on and off the pitch, I think she’s going to do well for us for the rest of the season.”

The Gills showed a fantastic team spirit to come back from penalty shoot out heart break against Whitehawk in the League Cup, just over a week ago.

Kirsty is of the opinion that it was their best performance of the season and that they deserved more from the game.

She said: “I think we have got very good team spirit, there is a lot of new players in the team this year, but everyone gets on well and we are really starting to work well together on the pitch.

“Last week against Whitehawk was the best the whole team has played this season; everyone put everything into the game.

“It was gutting that we didn’t get the result we deserved but I think we can take a lot away from the game.”
