Introducing new signing Megan Cavell

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on March 29, 2010

With the transfer window coming to a close a few weeks ago manager Sean Edwards made one final signing to boost his title chasing team.

That player was Megan Cavell who arrived from Kent side Ramsgate to bolster the manager’s forward line.

Talking about how the move to the Gills came about, she said: “It was through a friend of mine knowing one of the girls in the team, I went to a training session to show what I had and luckily the manager liked it.

“All the girls are great; in training and matches they give encouragement and are all really easy to get on with.

“The girls are doing really well to be unbeatable so far. I’ve played in three games now and in all of them I think we have shown that we want that title and that we are capable of achieving it.”

Manager Sean Edwards has certainly been impressed by her performances in the few appearances that she has made, although she doesn’t set out to impress the manager.

She added: “Impressing the manager is good but it’s not something I go out to do, I just try to perform to the best of my ability and hope it is good enough.”

When she came on as a second half sub against Aylesford she wondered if her luck was out before she scored on her first appearance.

She said: “I thought I’d never score. My first touch turned into a sitter and with a goal disallowed I started to think it was beginner’s bad luck but I guess it rubbed off in the end when scoring two.

“This weekend being in the starting 11 was good as I got to get straight into it without watching the girls and wanting to be on the pitch too. Hopefully it’s a regular thing now.

“Sunday was good and Sean said that I played well and made a good contribution to the game. Being in the starting line up on a more regular basis would be rewarding.”

Megan is currently operating up front alongside Kylie Overton but she is another one of those players who can play in more than one position.

“For Gills at the moment playing up front is working. For my previous team, Ramsgate I played just behind the stickers but I feel that I can perform in most positions.

“My pace I think is one of my strong aspects, I am finding I am getting caught offside more times than I would want to, I just need to remember to give it the extra yard and use the pace I have.”

Having joined from Ramsgate and them being her first club she is enjoying being part of a successful Gills team.

Everyone at Gillingham Ladies would like to wish Megan all the best for her time with the Gills.
