Reynolds: It was a perfect hat-trick

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on April 11, 2010

It is fair to say that it has been a rollercoaster couple of weeks for Terri Reynolds and she capped it off with five goals in two games on Sunday afternoon.

Those that have watched Terri this season will know she spent most of her time at centre half but against Gravesham she played up front to great effect.

Talking about why she never played up front before Sunday, she said: “I don’t think I have ever played up front before, not sure why I just always enjoyed getting stuck in and I guess that is more of a defenders/midfielders job to do.”

When the game kicked off Terri could never have dreamed of scoring a hat trick inside eight minutes in the second half.

She added: “It was a perfect hat trick, one left foot, one right foot and a header. To be fair, I didn’t realise how quickly it came. I just wanted to do a job today and the fact I scored a hat trick was a bonus.”

Last week was a bit of a shock for Terri as she thought she would be a spectator and not actually on the bench for the crunch came with Ashford.

Explaining how it all came about, she said: “It was a bit of a shock, the call came at 1pm and I didn’t even have my boots. I had to borrow Kimi B’s boots for the warm up while Anna Broad went to get my football stuff – legend.

“Sean had hinted that we only had a few players this week and I was a little concerned but the whole reason I came back was to help out the girls and if it meant playing in a double header I guess I had to get on with it.”

Playing in a double header is one thing but playing up front was something that she never thought she would hear manager Sean Edwards say to her.

She added: “I cracked up when Sean told me, I wasn’t sure if he was joking or not but we’d had a conversation earlier in the week and I told him that I’d play anywhere and give him 100% – I never said I’d be any good but I promised 100%. To be fair I think he was shocked with my performance today!

“I just found it all really amusing. Like it was brilliant to have scored five goals but I certainly didn’t expect it and I don’t think anyone else did either.”

After the game it wasn’t just Terri who was feeling the effects of two games in one afternoon, but she was really proud of the players.

She said: “I think it was clear towards the end of the second half I was feeling the effects. Let’s put it this way I’m not looking forward to waking up tomorrow.

“I think I have caught the bug to play for the rest of the season. As long as the Sean and the girls need me/want me to play I’ll be there.

“I’ve enjoyed being back the girls are brilliant and we all get on really well which is quality. Plus there’s a League to be won and I’m looking forward to playing my part.

“Everyone in the team worked their socks of today and should be really proud. It’s not easy starting any game, let alone a double header, knowing you have no subs and two hours of football to play.

“Everyone pulled together today and I think the spirit of the team really showed. We all worked for one another and encouraged each other all the way through both games.

“I think the team deserved to take six points today and should look forward to our remaining games with the aim of taking maximum points.”
