Milton 1-7 Gills Ladies Reserves

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on April 26, 2010

Gills Ladies Reserves moved to within one victory of the South East Counties Division One East title after a comprehensive victory on Sunday afternoon.

Goals on the afternoon came from Megan Cavell who bagged a brace, and Charlotte Abbott who also bagged two goals apiece and one from Anelle Massey.

Manager Sean Edwards gave starting places to Anelle Massey and Charlotte Abbott who partnered the goal scoring machine of recent weeks Terri Reynolds up front.

It was the home side who came out of the blocks the fastest and looked to attack as they had the slop in the first half.

Jessica Nunn was probably the busiest that she had been for most of the season, clearing up endless long balls from Milton.

The Gills took the lead in the 30th minute when a fine solo effort when she took the ball down well and calmly slotted past the keeper.

The Gills continued to push for a second goal as the half wore on but it became a game of end to end action.

Half time 0-1

The Gills were the dominant team as the game kicked off in the second half with the sun at their backs and kicking downhill.

The half started really well for the Gills as Leanne Stevens sent over a corner that Charlotte Abbott expertly guided into the back of the net in the 55th minute.

Milton then pulled a goal back in the 69th minute against the run of play when they sprung the offside trap and slotted home past Jessica Nunn, amazingly she has conceded just ten goals in all competitions this season.

Just two minutes later and the Gills restored their two goal cushion when Leanne Stevens fired in another corner, she found Kirsty Goodall. Goodall then set up Charlotte Abbott who fired in her second goal of the game off of the post.

With 15 minutes left on the clock Anelle Massey made the points safe for the Gills went she fired her shot into the roof of the net.

The Gills were in top gear by this point and in the 85th minute an excellent dummy that sent the keeper the wrong way. She had the simple task of taking the ball round the keeper and slotting into the empty net.

Megan Cavell then made a cameo appearance as a super sub; she fired in twice in two minutes with neat finishes to round off the afternoon for the Gills.

The Gills now go into the Deal game next weekend knowing that a victory will see them pick up the League title and make it the most successful season for Gillingham Ladies FC in their history.
