Gillingham Ladies withdraw from S.E.C.W.F.L
Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on May 12, 2010
After the first team won the League and gained promotion to the FA Southern Premiership, the Gills were given the option of joining the FA Southern Premiership Reserve League. The Gills have today officially appilied to join the League.
This was the first season that Gillingham Ladies launched a reserve team and they competed in Division One East of the South East Counties Womens Football League. After a rocky start with player registration problems and being deducted 2 points, a heavy fine and a walk over awarded to league rivals Ashford, the Gills finally overcame that and won the League with a win in their last game of the season.
It was always the Gills intention to move the Reserves to the Prem Reserve League but Director Of Football, Martin Andrews did have high hopes of creating a 3rd team which would of continued in the SECWFL. This was to help bridge the gap from the Centre Of Excellence to Womens football.
However with a lack of funding, training facilities and dedicated coaches, plans of getting them up and running this Summer have had to been shelved.
Gillingham Ladies F.C would like to thank all committee members of SECWFL and all the teams they competed against this season.
