Ressies Roundup: Part One

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on June 17, 2010

Gills Ladies Reserves also had an amazing season in 2009/10 and in the first of a three part series we take a look back at their season.

Their season didn’t kick off until September so they had an extra two or three weeks off before their first game and it was frustrating for them to watch their first team counterparts as they were itching to get going.

It didn’t help that their first game against Ashford was postponed and Ashford awarded a walkover and the Gills were docked a further two points. With minus points behind them the Ladies set about showing they meant business when they finally kicked off their campaign.

They did it in style with a 6-1 away win over local rivals Aylesford with a hat trick for Anelle Massey on her first start for the reserves. There were also goals for young striker Charlotte Abbott on her debut and a brace for Rachel Ahern.

What few people realised was that this would be the start of a run that would see them finish the season unbeaten in the League.

Milton and Fulston were up next in the Reserves first home game of the season and one of the favourites for the League were dispatched comfortably 4-1. There were four different scorers in this game as Leanne Stevens, Chloe Phillips, Terri Reynolds and Rachel Ahern all found the back of the net.

By now the Reserves were finding the goal scoring boots and proceeded into October by hammering every team that they came up against. Firstly Deal Town were beaten easily 9-0. Chloe Jamieson netted a hat trick, there was a brace for Amy Russ and goals for Chloe Phillips, Charlotte Thurston and Lauren Harris as well as an own goal.

Long Lane came and went as well in an easy 4-0 victory that saw the Ladies cruise in second gear thanks to goals from Lauren Harris, Amy Russ, Hannah Corral and Chloe Phillips.

Lauren Harris scored twice

Anchorians were the team against which Leanne Stevens picked to score her first ever hat trick in Ladies football in a 7-0 victory. Other goals came from an own goal, Kirsty Goodall and a brace from the ever impressive Lauren Harris.

Castle Colts were the first team to take any points from the Ladies in a surprising 1-1 away draw. They went 1-0 down in a game that saw them host a whole host of chances before Chloe Jamieson scored a stunning equaliser.

The Reserves marched on in November as they began to steam roller any opposition that was put in their way.

Crockenhill provided a stern test for the Reserves but ultimately came up short and the Gills once again impressed in a 5-0 victory. Kylie Overton netted her first goals for the Reserves and did it in emphatic style with a well taken hat trick; there was also a goal apiece for Chloe Jamieson and Kirsty Goodall.

Long Lane again were easily despatched in the reverse of the earlier fixture, with the Gills winning 7-1. Kylie Overton scored her second hat trick in as many games, and there were also goals for Anelle Massey and Terri Reynolds. Amazingly as well Kerrie Scott bagged a brace from left back and they were two well taken goals as well.

Next week we take a look back to December, January and February and that match against Whitehawk in the League Cup.
