Perry Previews Basildon

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on July 23, 2010

Aaron Perry leads his team for the first time on Sunday as the Reserves take on Basildon in their first pre-season friendly.

It will be the first chance that he has had to see his new players in action since taking over the side two weeks ago, and he is looking forward to it.

Talking about the game, he said: “I am looking forward to Sunday to be honest with you, it has been a good two weeks or so and the girls have worked really hard.

“The sessions have been really positive, and it is just nice to have a game to be honest with you so I am looking forward to it.”

Aaron will be using the game to look at his players in a competitive environment and to blow away the closed season cobwebs.

He added: “We are going to look at a number of things and a different system possibly, and we will rotate a few players and a few things around.

“Obviously the result is important I am not going into the game to be negative, I still expect to get a result from the game. We have enough quality in the squad to get a result no matter what we do in the game.  We are looking to go into the game with an open mind really.

“I have only seen the girls for four sessions really and have spoken to Vars about them. I have yet to see them game wise so it will be nice to see them in the game really.”

The squad this weekend and for the season ahead is predominantly a young one and the manager will be relying on his senior players.

He said: “The squad is a young one and that is the way we are going to go this season and our experienced players are 22 or 23. We are going to be relying on the older ones to help the younger ones and encourage them and get them through games.

“I am sure the girls we have, have enough about them and personality to deal with it and come across and help the younger ones improve. “

It is Aaron’s first season with the Reserve team and he is looking forward to the season and the challenges that lie ahead.

He added: “I am really looking forward to getting going now; the sessions have been good since I have been here.

“There is a buzz around the camp and I look forward to it. I look forward to leaving training and coming back for the next session. It is a really good place to be at the moment.”
