Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on August 5, 2010
Gillingham Ladies continued their pre-season preparations this evening with a thumping of local side Maidstone Town.
Ian Varley’s side chalked up an incredible 11-0 score line with their fourth win in five games.
Laura Jeffery netted a hat trick, and it is no more than she has been threatening since her arrival at the Gills this summer. Strike partners Ashlee Hincks and Natalie Crinean netted a brace each.
There were also goals for new signings Lauren Phillips, Lauren Williams and two familiar faces to all Gills Ladies fans as Captain Becky Lyon and Les Kay were also on the score sheet.
The game took an unusual format as the Gills played three halves of thirty minutes each, and Ian utilised all the players available to him in his squad.
It took just three minutes for the Gills to take the lead and it was Ashlee Hincks, who is in fine form this pre-season who opened the scoring with a great curling effort over the keeper.
It didn’t take long for the Gills to make it 2-0 this time it was Les Kay who found the back of the Maidstone net. She unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner from 20 yards out.
Natalie Crinean was next to get her name on the score sheet as she was brought down inside the Maidstone area. She picked herself up dusted herself down and calmly stroked her spot kick home.
Crinean had her second goal of the game in the 23rd minute. Ash Hincks found herself one on one with the Maidstone goalkeeper and played a pass to her strike partner who put the ball into the empty net to make it 4-0.
The Gills made it 5-0 in the 42nd minute when new striker Lauren Phillips got the goal that her form in pre-season has warranted. It was Natalie Crinean who turned provider this time for her strike partner, who arrowed her shot into the corner.
Laura Jeffery then netted her first goal of the game in the 50th minute, with a powerful drive that nearly took the roof off of the back of the net, as it left the keeper with no chance.
Seven minutes later and the summer signing had her second goal of the game. A ball was played into the area by Amy Russ and it was brilliant play by Natalie Crinean that allowed Jeffery to power her shot home with her left foot.
With 69 minutes on the clock Ashlee Hincks netted her second goal of the game with another fantastic curling effort over the top of the despairing keeper.
Laura Jeffery netted her hat trick in the 74th minute, there was great work from Lauren Williams in the build up. This allowed Laura to finish off an unstoppable shot off on the half volley.
The final goal of the game came in the 86th minute, a corner was swung in and the impressive Lyon won the ball and it fell to Lauren Williams who lashed home her shot from four yards out.
