Enfield 0-6 Gills Ladies
Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on August 8, 2010
Gillingham Ladies continued their good pre-season form on Sunday afternoon with a resounding win against Enfield.
Their opponents Enfield finished runners up to the Gills in the South East Combination League last season but were despatched with consummate ease 6-0.
Goals came on the afternoon from Natalie Crinean, Lauren Williams, Becky Taylor, a penalty from Danni Farmer and a brace for Lauren Phillips.
Ian Varley’s side have taken some stopping this pre-season and the signs looked ominous for Enfield early on.
It was particularly pleasing for Lauren Phillips to bag a brace as she has put in some sterling work this pre-season without reward.
The match also represented another clean sheet for the ever impressive Becky Lyon and her back line who she marshalled well from the off.
It was somewhat of a surprise then that it took the Gills 24 minutes to find the back of the Enfield net.
The ever impressive Laura Jeffery squared the ball across the Enfield area and 16-year-old summer signing Becky Taylor slid the ball home.
This was the only goal of the first half despite the dominance and the possession that the Gills had up until the half time whistle.
Half Time 0-1
It is ironic that the Gills had to wait until the second half before adding to the score line given their first half possession.
Their attacking intent was soon rewarded and the flood gates opened from there. Right back Lauren Williams was then on the score sheet, as she netted her second goal in two pre-season games, as her cross come shot was spilled into the net in the 56th minute by the Enfield keeper.
Lauren Phillips scored the Gills third goal via a deflection in the 61st minute and it was no more than Becky Taylor’s hard work in the build up deserved.
Potter as she is affectionately known by her team mates was on the score sheet again seven minutes later. She saw her first shot saved by the keeper after being put through one on one, but she made no mistake with her rebound.
The Gills earned a penalty with just 15 minutes left on the clock. Striker Natalie Crinean burst into the Enfield box and just as she went to pull the trigger she was tackled from behind.
The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Danni Farmer stepped up and smashed the penalty straight down the middle and into the roof of the net for 5-0.
Natalie Crinean did get herself on the score sheet in the 88th minute when a quick free kick from Lauren Phillips found Danielle Carlton.
Her brilliant through ball found Crinean who lofted the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net to round of the scoring.
The Gills created no fewer than 18 chances on the afternoon and were rarely tested at the back on a comfortable afternoon.
