Malgo 0-9 Gills Ladies Reserves
Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on August 24, 2010
The Reserves finished their impressive pre-season build up tonight with a nine goal victory over newly formed Malgo.
The goals on the night came from the impressive Kylie Overton who scored a hat trick, there was a brace for Charlotte Abbott and Kate Cronin-Wilson as well as goals for Natalie Farbrace and an own goal.
The result means that the Gills have now scored 25 goals in their five games and have conceded just three goals in the process.
The Gills were to strong for their opponents from the first whistle as they looked to assert their attacking style on the game.
Even though they have started games better during pre-season the experience in the team shone through.
It did take the Gills 25 minutes to take the lead though Kirsty Goodall made a great run down the right wing before hitting a cross. The defender tried to cut the ball out but made a mess of it and it went into her own net for 1-0.
What is more amazing is that it took the Ladies a further ten minutes to extend their lead as they were having most of the possession.
Natalie Farbrace drove out from the midfield and went one on one with the keeper before smashing the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Five minutes before half time it was 3-0 thanks to a great solo effort from Charlotte Abbott who was playing in the centre of midfield. Abbott picked the ball up in the midfield and played a pass through round a defender, to herself as it turned out because everyone else was off side, before racing into the area and hitting a shot into the back of the net.
On the stroke of half time it was 4-0 with Kylie Overton netting her first goal of the game. Kate Foster smashed a ball out from the back that Overton latched onto before calmly chipping the keeper.
Half Time 0-4
The Second half saw the Reserves add to their impressive score line with another five goals and there were some quality strikes amongst them.
On the hour mark it was 5-0 as a text book move straight from the training ground lead to Kylie Overton scoring her second goal of the game. There was great inter play from Charlotte Abbott and Natalie Farbrace who played the ball to Kimi Bolden, she then whipped in a great cross that was headed home by Overton.
Two minutes later and it was 6-0 as summer signing Kate Cronin-Wilson netted her first goal since signing for the Gills this summer. She found herself up against the centre half, she outmuscled her with ease and went through one on one with the keeper and smashed her shot into the net.
Shortly afterwards Overton had her hat trick and the Gills seventh thanks to the newly named dying swan flick. A cross came into the Malgo area and Overton stuck her leg out and flicked it into the back of the net to complete her hat trick.
Kate Cronin-Wilson was on the score sheet for the second time with ten minutes to go. Again the young forward found herself one on one with the keeper after breaking into the area from the right wing, she then smashed her shot home once more.
Charlotte Abbott rounded off the scoring at 9-0 and she saved the best goal of the game until last as well. Kirsty Goodall laid the ball off to Natalie Farbrace and she set the ball into the path of Abbott who lashed in a spectacular effort from 25 yards out.
The manager was so pleased with how his side finished their pre-season campaign that he rewarded them with some box to box running. It is an impressive way to finish pre-season unbeaten with one draw and five wins.
