Midfielder Gemma Ridge came off the substitute’s bench on Sunday afternoon to net an impressive brace.
Het two goals helped the Reserves to an impressive 8-1 victory over Parkwood Ladies in their final pre-season game.
Talking after the game, Gemma said: “I was very happy to finally get on the score sheet in pre-season as it gives me a big lift for the new season.
“It is good to be involved in setting up goals for your team mates; it shows that we are a team and individuals.
“We all work hard for each other and we all want to win this League and we have the team and the management to do it.”
Speaking of which Gemma has been impressed with the impact that Aaron and Matt have had since taking over from Sean Edwards at the beginning of the summer.
She added: “Having Matt and Aaron is a massive boost for us, they are probably the best coaches that we have had.
“They are winners and they give us belief, they have brought in loads of new ideas. They have made us into more of an attacking team which we have lacked, which you can tell from us being unbeaten in pre-season.”
Moving on to talk about pre-season the winger has been impressed with the performances of the Reserves but not so the fitness regime they have been through.
She said: “It gives us real confidence for the start of the season. This year we have a really good group of girls and we all bring something different to the team.
“I am really looking forward to getting started now, we can finally show people what we are made of and hopefully win the League.”
“Pre-season was hard but well worth it, Laura pushed us all to the limit which you can see in our play. I would say that it is the best fitness that any of us have ever had.”
With Gemma now being one of the experienced members of the Reserve squad we asked her who she thinks has a bright future in the game.
She added: “There are a few of the younger girls, but I would say Ruth the keeper has a bright future.
“She has the presence around her and she is very strong for a 16 year old and she is not scared of getting hurt and leads from the back.”
