Yeovil Ladies Reserves 3-0 Gills Ladies Reserves

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on September 26, 2010

Gillingham Ladies crashed out of the League Cup on Sunday afternoon after a three-nil defeat away at Yeovil Reserves.

The goals on the afternoon came from striker Dee Cracknell and a brace from the impressive midfielder Jodi Cornwall.

The Reserves went into the game unbeaten during pre-season and the start of the season and in free scoring form. Yet the conditions they encountered whilst it isn’t an excuse where nothing short of bad, with a pitch on a massive slope, which favoured the attacking team in either half.

They fell behind for the first time in any competition in the first minute when a simple ball over the top beat Izzy Martin and Jodi Cornwall had the simple task of slotting in past Ruth Jackson.

Unlike recent weeks the Gills created a number of chances but could not convert any of the chances that came their way. As for some reason on Sunday afternoon when the conditions didn’t help

The second goal came after a scrappy build up in which Cornwall rounded both Les Kay and Kimi Bolden before smashing a shot home into the top right hand corner to net her second goal of the game.

The game was put beyond any doubt when Cracknell grabbed a scrappy goal after a corner missed everyone and fell at her feet. She had the simple task of slotting in from two yards out to seal the Glovers progress into Round Two of the League Cup.

Whilst the Gills will have been disappointing to bow out of the League Cup at the first hurdle their performance was solid and workman like, and their main focus was always on the League.

Gills: Jackson, Judd, Lynch, Bolden ©, Martin, Kay, Massey, Abbott, Goodall, Overton, Harris
