Mugford: Things just haven’t been falling for us

Midfielder Jodie Mugford was left frustrated after the loss to Yeovil on Sunday afternoon after dominating large parts of the game.

The Ladies worked tirelessly throughout the game and created some good chances which made it more irritating for Jodie.

Talking after the game, she said: “It was frustrating today because we worked really hard throughout the game, we all feel disappointed because things just haven’t been falling for us recently.

“Especially today, hitting the woodwork and the goalie making a couple of quality saves, whereas on another day we would have got them and been in a comfortable winning position. “

Jodie was certainly in the thick of the action against the Glovers with some great passes and some heroic blocks.

She added: “Getting hit in the head in the first half was actually quite funny, although it really hurt, all I remember is hearing people go ooo and ouch, I didn’t know anything about it, but I sure know the left back could ping a ball.

“She couldn’t have got a better aim of my face either! oh and can’t forget to mention Loz and her slip in the first couple of minutes today, seeing her fall over and wind herself was hilarious.”

The Ladies created some great chances on the day and Jodie was full of praise for the Gills strikers and Rachel Simkin in the Yeovil goal.

She said: “To be fair the goalie defiantly kept them in the game today, her save from Ash’s shot, we was all celebrating as soon as she hit it, but she pulled off a save out of nowhere.

“We created quite a few chances, we had one from a corner but Sian was too busy thinking about something else (sheep maybe), Big Bird (Laura Jeffery) hit the post too, and we also hit the crossbar, it’s not like we are not trying, one of them will go in soon, we hope.”

Jodie has been a big miss in the middle of the park at times this season because she has the ability to see a pass that was evident on Sunday.

Giving her opinion on her style of play, she added: “My game is just literally giving me the ball and I will try and find a pass, I am not a player that will run at defenders or take them on.

“I am just a simple player that gets the ball and tries to make things happen. However, with my lightening quick pace I should be playing on the wing, but Ian is yet to play me there I wonder why?”(She says with a smile on her face).
It was a rare full game for the midfielder against the Glovers as she bids to get back to match fitness after a period on the sidelines.

She said: “Sunday was my first 90 minutes in a long while; I actually can’t remember my last 90 minutes to be honest.

“It’s been annoying and frustrating being out after my operation, I couldn’t run for three weeks, literally just had to sit and watch the girls play and train.

“I played for the reserves, got some minutes under my belt and also the in house training game, each week my match fitness is improving with the more I play, feels great to be back playing and training.”

It is back to training this week for the Ladies and it is back to working on a few things ahead of the Charlton game.

Jodie added: “We will all be working hard in training as usual -if the floodlights want to work this week- I am sure Ian has areas for us to work on as we look ahead to our next game. Note to Sarah Jones – dress for training in appropriate attire.”
