Jackson: The girls have been excellent
Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on September 28, 2010
Young keeper Ruth Jackson has been in fine form this season since making the step up from the Gills Centre of Excellence.
On Sunday however she along with the rest of the Reserve team tasted defeat for the first time this season in the Reserves League Cup against Yeovil.
Giving her reaction after the game, Ruth said: “It is always frustrating to lose any game. To lose our first game of the season and to think of the form we have been in recently was definitely frustrating for everyone yesterday.
“To think that we had the majority of the possession was also frustrating but to not score from the chances we had left us quite irritated as time went on.”
The Reserves have been in excellent form this season and are currently top of the League and Ruth believes that is down to the talent in the squad.
She added: “The start to our season has been fantastic. To win comfortably in the first three League games gives the team a great lift going into every game. The three good wins just shows what talent we have within the Reserves.”
Ruth made the step up along with several others from the Centre of Excellence this summer to the Reserve team and she is clearly enjoying her time with the Ladies.
She said: “I knew stepping up from the Centre of Excellence was always going to be hard. I always find things easier if I take it in my stride and work my way up to my full ability.
“To find that since making the step up i have been in good form through pre-season and the start of the season always make me feel more confident going into games. The girls have been excellent in helping all of us youngsters make the step up from Centre of Excellence to the Ladies.”
The youngster has a few aims for this season and they include playing as many games as she can for the Reserves.
“It is always pleasing to keep a clean sheet and yes it must be the same feeling as any player scoring a goal. To know I have a couple of these already this season gives me a lot more confidence however, the defence have also played a big part in keeping the clean sheets throughout the start of this season.
“My aims for this season are to keep playing regularly and to keep keeping clean sheets. I would also like to give consistent performances week in week out that help the Reserves to keep winning and fight for promotion this season.
“The Reserves have so much talent within the squad. Going from the defence through to the strikers everyone has talent that shines through in games.
“Everyone gives their all week in week out and if we carry on this way our form will just keep rising. It is always hard to judge at the start of the season how the season will roll out however, from what I have seen through the first part of the season it is looking to be a successful season that everyone will get something out of.”
