Gills Ladies Reserves 4-0 Yeovil Town Reserves

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on October 31, 2010

The Reserves showed their superior class on Sunday afternoon as they swept aside Yeovil Reserves four-nil.

Kim Bolden got the scoring started for the Reserves; it was followed up by Tami who netted the second. In the second half Sarah Jones netted the third before Anelle Massey slotted home a penalty late on.

Les Kay played in goal for the Gills as a stand in goalkeeper and for most parts of the game she was a virtual spectator as she didn’t have a save to make.

The Gills were straight at Yeovil from the off and in the 2nd minute Tami crossed for Sarah Jones who hit a shot straight at the keeper.

In the opening minutes of the game the Gills put pressure on the Yeovil back line and half chances came and went for the Ladies.

The goal did come in the 12th minute and it was Captain Kimi Bolden who got on the score sheet. She broke down the left wing and hit what looked like a cross but it beat the keeper and flew into the back of the net.

They didn’t have to wait to long to make it 2-0 either as just a minute later the ball was nestling in the back of the Yeovil net once more.

Kirsty Goodall sent a great cross into the Yeovil box, it flashed right across the six yard box and Tami lurking at the back post had the simple task of tapping home from close range.

On 17 minutes Tami swung a corner into the Yeovil box and Sammy Lester rose highest but saw her header cleared from danger.

With 23 minutes on the clock Kirsty Goodall made a great run down the left wing before cutting inside and crossing towards Kylie Overton. The Reserves top scorer couldn’t get on the end of the ball but the cross only just went wide of the far post as the Gills looked for the game clinching third goal.

Two minutes later Sarah Jones saw a shot well saved by Lucia Harrington in the Yeovil goal as the midfielder threatened to find the net.

The first effort on the Gills goal by Yeovil came in the 39th minute when Leah Jenning crossed for Deven Rich who smashed her shot high over Lesley Kay’s cross bar.

Half Time 2-0

The Reserves came out in the second half and picked up where they left off in the first half and looked to kill the game off early on.

Tami made a great run in the 47th minute and she fed the ball to Anelle Massey and her shot went just over the bar.

The Gills looked for the entire world as though they had extended their lead in the 49th minute. Sarah Jones made a great run into the box before feeding the ball to Anelle Massey. Her shot from just outside the area looked as though it was going into the bottom corner but the keeper pulled off a fantastic save.

Massey was fast becoming the driving force in midfield and in the 53rd minute she almost scored a fantastic goal. She picked the ball up 30 yards out from goal and smashed a shot that looked like it was going to beat the keeper, it did beat the keeper but rattled the cross bar.

The young midfielder did get the goal that her play deserved in the 75th minute. Tami made a great run into the area and was upended by the Yeovil keeper. Anelle Massey stepped up and smashed the penalty into the back of the net.

The Gills could have gone on and added more to the score line, but Amy Taylor put a shot well over the bar after good work by Kimi Bolden.

The Reserves maintained their impressive start to the League season and keep their foot on the gas at the top of the table.
