Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on November 19, 2010

Gillingham Ladies can today reveal the signing of winger Leah Jones from National Premiership side Millwall.

The 21-year-old joins the Gills and brings a wealth of experience from her time at Millwall and Fulham and her pace will be a real asset to the side.

Talking about her move to Martin Grove, Leah said: “The move to Gillingham is really about enjoying my football again, and so far the move has proved to be the right one.

“For the rest of this season my aim is to help the Gills achieve back to back promotions that would be awesome.  It is definitely do able with the squad that Gillingham have.”

Having spent three seasons at Millwall Leah thought that the time was right to make the move and with so many friends at Gillingham she believes she will settle in quickly.

She added: “It definitely helps knowing people at the Gills. I’ve played with a few of the girls at Fulham and Millwall. It makes it easier to come into a new environment knowing people. Saying that though all the girls I have recently met have been welcoming.”

The right winger describes her game as very attacking and she likes to get the ball to feet and take on defenders.

Manager Ian Varley is delighted to have captured the signing of Leah Jones and he believes she will be a big asset to the team.

He said: “Leah is a phenomenal and she is definitely one of the better signings that I have made in recent times.

“She has pace to burn and she should be a great asset to the team as we push on into the second half of the season.”
