Farmer: It was really good to score today

Midfielder Danni Farmer was delighted to net her first two goals of the season on Sunday afternoon against London Corinthians.
Surprisingly for everyone it came as a surprise when she announced at training on Thursday evening that she hadn’t scored a goal all season, but put that right in style in the Kent Cup.
Talking about her strikes, she said: “It was really good to score today and I was pleased with the finishes as there have been times this season where I should have taken my chances. Hopefully, I can kick on now and get a few more between now and the end of the season.
“It really has surprised me not to have scored until today. It is not something I have ever had to work on in previous seasons as I have always managed to score goals but it hasn’t really happened this year. Obviously I am glad they went in today but the most important this is that we have progressed into the semi finals.”
The performance against Corinthians is something that Farms thinks was far better and much more like the Gills can play.
“We played some really good football at times considering the state of the pitch and scored some good team goals said Danni
“At times it was difficult as we had so much time on the ball and it sort of slowed the pace of the game. They were also camped on the edge of their box, which is something we haven’t had to deal with before so it was more like an attack versus defence phase of play, which at times was a little frustrating. We kept playing and got the result in the end.”
Having won the Kent Cup last season Danni is expecting the Gills to defend the trophy this time round as well.
She added: “I think we are definitely capable of retaining the Kent Cup and recent performances have shown that. Everyone has been boosted by the display against Chelsea as on the night we showed how we can play and on our day we feel we can compete against anyone. Regardless of what cup or competition we are playing in we will go out to win it.”
The Gills signed Leah Jones last week and at the weekend she impressed her new team mates with two well taken goals.
“Leah has been a great signing for us and has sort of softened the blow of losing Ashlee to Chelsea. She brings something different to the team and has shown she can finish both when she played against us for Millwall and also today with two good goals. Hopefully she can continue scoring goals and with that we will surely climb the League.
