Midfielder wins Swale Sports Award

Last night saw the annual Swale Sports Awards for 2010 the awards honour the outstanding achievements of sports men and women in Swale.

Gillingham Ladies very own star midfielder Deanna Cooper was nominated in the Category of Junior Sports Performer of the Year.

Deanna didn’t find out that she was nominated and in the top three until she read the local newspaper, and was even more shocked when she was announced as the winner.

She said: “I was really surprised to find out that I had been nominated for these awards, as I wasn’t expecting anything and didn’t have a clue about them until the letter came through last week.

“It was only when I looked in the paper when I found out who I was up against and realised it was a good friend so getting the Gold award was really good for me.

“A lot has happened this year and to end the year with an award like this has been a great achievement that both me and my family are very proud of.”

At 17 she is has accomplished a lot in both Cricket and Football having represented her country at both sports
Manager Ian Varley was delighted that one of his first team squad has been rewarded for all her hard work and dedication to Sport.

He said: “I am really pleased for Deanna to win this award; she works hard both on and off the pitch week in week out.

“She is a talented footballer and a talented cricketer, it is nice to see Gillingham Ladies players being recognised for their achievements in 2010.
