Perry: It is nice to be top over Christmas

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on December 23, 2010

Reserve team manager Aaron Perry couldn’t be happier heading into the Christmas break with his side top of the (Reserves) Southern Division Two.

The Reserves are currently thirteen points clear of second place Brighton and Hove Albion Reserves heading into the second part of the season.

Not only are the Ladies top of the League but they stand a good chance in the newly formed Kent Shield as well, as they face Meridian Girls in January in the Quarter Finals.

Reflecting on the season so far an elated Aaron, said: “It is nice to be top over Christmas and to know that we are top going into the Cup game as well.

“We are top of the table and I said to the girls before the Colchester game that our target was to be top of the table in January and be in the Kent Shield Quarter finals. That was our aim at the start of the season and that is where we are at.”

Aaron only came into the Club in the pre-season and he has carried on the good work with the Reserves from last season.

He added: “When I came into the Club at the end of June, I said that we were going to finish in the top three in the League.

“We also want to win some silverware in the Cups. We are currently well above where we said that we were going to be.

“The girls have set the standards and we have to keep going now to make sure that we raise the bar week in week out.”

Whilst the Reserves have played more games in the League than anyone else barring any freak results their destiny is in their own hands.

He said: “Without putting to much pressure on ourselves it is in our own hands now if I am honest with you.

“We are clear of Millwall and Colchester and Brighton. Colchester and Brighton have got to play each other and go to Millwall. I think the title is in our own hands but we have got to make sure we are focussed and win our games and concentrate on what we need to do and not what everyone else is doing.”
