Perry: Our quality came through

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on January 10, 2011

Aaron Perry was delighted to see his side make the quarter-final of the Kent Plate but a little concerned with the first half performance.

In the second half the Reserves clicked into gear and ran in five goals which left the manager purring after a good over attacking display.

He said: “In the end I think the people who watched the game saw that our quality came through in the end.

“We decided to get the ball on the floor and pass it and they couldn’t get near us, to be fair to them they made it hard in the first forty minutes but as the game went on they tired and our fitness and general quality came through so I am pleased with the result.”

Having not played a game since mid December it was good for the Reserves to get back to action in the Cup.

He added: “Our last game was Colchester at home and we haven’t really done a lot since then, we did a bit over the Christmas period and they were back last week it is nice to have a game.

“It wasn’t as easy as the score line reflects but we scored the seven goals and we can move onto the quarter-finals now. I am looking forward to it; we will be looking forward to it. I said at Christmas we wanted to be top of the League and in the Cup and we have done that.”

The Reserves scored seven on the afternoon and they shared them amongst the team which is always pleasing to see for the manager.

He said: “We put our strongest eleven available to us for the game; we gave them the respect that they deserved.

“The goals came in the end and it was nice to see a few different scorers on the sheet today. Two of the three subs Lou and Loz got on the sheet as well which is nice.

“They haven’t had as much game time as they would have liked but they have waited their time and when they came on they did well so I am really pleased.”
