Gills Ladies 3-0 QPR Ladies

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on January 30, 2011

Gills Ladies found their scoring touch on Sunday afternoon as they overcame a stubborn QPR side 3-0 at Martin Grove.

A brace from Lauren Phillips and a superb header from Natalie Crinean put the Ladies 3-0 up in the first half and that is the way it stayed.

It was however QPR who got out of the blocks quicker and the first attempt on goal in the third minute Elly Maggs with the effort that Lauren Williams cleared off of her own goal line.

In the 7th minute Deanna Cooper tried her luck from distance but saw her shot straight at Emily Bourne in the QPR goal.

A minute later a ball over the tip was misjudged by Mel Bidewell and Natalie Crinean found herself one on one with the keeper who saved well with her feet.

The Gills were on the attack again a minute later and this time they found the back of the net. Danni Farmer played the ball into the area; Natalie Crinean back heeled it along the six yard area and Lauren Phillips the ball in to give the Gills the lead.

In the 12th minute Dan Carlton fed the ball to Deanna Cooper in the middle of the park who turned and hit a shot that went just wide of the near post.

Shortly after and the Ladies doubled their advantage thanks to good work from goal scorer Lauren Phillips. Her cross was met by Natalie Crinean with a bullet header into the top corner past the stranded Bourne for 2-0.

On 25 minutes the Gills failed to clear their lines from a corner and Hannah Curnow hit a shot goal wards but it was hacked away by Lauren Phillips.

Just after the half hour mark Natalie Crinean played in Danni Farmer with a great touch but she sent her shot over the cross bar from 18 yards out.

The game was effectively over three minutes later when Lauren Phillips showed the awareness that all good strikers possess.

Laura Jeffery hit a shot from distance that was parried back out into the six yard box by Emily Bourne and Lauren Phillips following the shot in tapped in her second and the Gills third goal of the game.

Just before half time Laura Jeffery played the ball out of her feet and turned the defender before smashing a shot just wide of the near post.

Half Time 3-0

The second half was far from the spectacle that the first half was for the Gills as QPR came out to attack them from the off.

Four minutes in and Anita Alfonso crossed to the far post where Mel Bidewell was waiting but her header was well wide of the Gills goal.

In the 54th minute Natalie Crinean tried her luck from distance and she saw her shot go just over the cross bar.

QPR were battling hard and getting a lot of possession but they weren’t really making Becky Spencer work in the Gills goal.

On the hour mark Danielle Carlton let fly with an audacious effort that looked for the entire world as if it was going in, but if flew past the keeper’s right hand post.

On 66 minutes Cherrelle Albert squeezed in between Sarah Jones and Stacey McConville before shooting straight at Becky Spencer.

Not long after and Albert was in again, this time Beth Curtis picked her out with an excellent pass and she stormed into the Gills area but pulled her shot just wide of Spencer’s near post.

In the 82nd minute Natalie Crinean was played in and she blasted a shot over from 18 yards out that could have put the icing on the cake.

The last chance of the match fell to Albert who forced Becky Spencer into a great save low down at her near post from close range.

The result is a massive boost for the Ladies who head into a big FA Cup third round tie against Reading Ladies next Sunday.
