Millwall Reserves 0-3 Gills Ladies Reserves

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on January 30, 2011

Gills Ladies Reserves clinched promotion to the Reserves Southern Division One after a resounding 3-0 victory over Millwall Reserves.

It caps another remarkable season for the Reserve side and the goals came from Charlotte Abbott in the first half before a Kirsty Goodall header and a Tami strike put the gloss on the victory.

The Gills won the all important toss and kicked down hill in the first half which was to give them a real advantage.

The opening ten minutes of the game was a scrappy affair as both teams looked to get a foothold in the game and neither keeper was really tested.

The Gills took the lead in the 25th minute when a ball from the midfield was half cleared by the Millwall defence. The defenders clearance cannoned against a team mate and dropped into the path of Charlotte Abbott who smashed her shot home from inside the area.

Millwall were restricted by a stubborn and determined Gills defence to shots from distance that rarely troubled Jessica Nunn before half time.

In the second half the Gills had to kick up the slope and knew that they would have to weather a storm from Millwall attacking down the hill.

Weather that storm they did and they even had a stroke of luck when Millwall had a goal ruled out for offside after a break down the Gills right hand side.

The Reserves doubled their lead with about 15 minutes left thanks to some good work from a corner kick. Substitute Tami clipped the corner into the box and Kirsty Goodall rose highest to head into the back of the net.

The result was put beyond any doubt in the 82nd minute when Tami was played through, she rounded the keeper before the keeper recovered, but the sub showed good composure to chip the ball into the net.

The win ensures the Reserves promotion after a season in which they have lead the League from the off and they still have the Kent Plate to play for as well.

Full Time 0-3

Gills: Nunn, Judd, Lester, Lynch, Bolden (c), Massey (Tami, 60), Kay, Russ, Goodall (Harris, 80), Overton, Abbott (Taylor, 70)
