Farmer’s Thoughts Part Two

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on February 24, 2011

We played Reading in the next round of the FA cup and it turned out to be one of the most surreal games I have ever played in. Being one nil up at half time and then going two ahead soon after the break was massive and gave us so much confidence with us playing some brilliant passing football.

At 2-0 unfortunately we missed a one on one which would have killed off the opponents but again the luck wasn’t on our side and a very average keeper pulled off a worldy. Reading then went on to score 5 goals in 8 minutes. I have never seen a game turn so quickly but these mad things seem to keep happening to us. We were by far the better team for 82 minutes of that game against a team second in the National Premier league and we have to take credit for that.

The season has been a strange one for us really with a lot of inconsistent results and performances. We have had the worst luck in all honesty. I have seen more freak goals go in against us this season than I have seen in my whole playing career but I suppose it is just the way things go sometimes.

In all honesty I think we expected success too quickly. This is the first season for Gillingham in the Premiership, and we have done ok. We have made a lot of signings this season and it has taken us longer than expected to gel, however the last few weeks has seen a real buzz at training and in the dressing room and this can only be positive.

The points will surely soon follow. We had a club night out on Saturday where we were able to let our hair down a bit and get our dancing shoes on, to celebrate Lesley Kay’s *cough cough* 21st birthday. It was good to get out for once for a little team bonding sesh, even if some members of the team quite clearly couldn’t handle their orange juices, could they Leah Jones ;) It was nice of the gaffer to let us get out rather than drag us in for training on our free Sunday.

We have had a good weeks training this week, and everyone is buzzing for the game against Cardiff this weekend. Ian did his homework, on his weekend off by going to watch them vs. Brighton on his own (did I mention it was his day off?) so we will have a heads up on how they play (well in gaffer), although everyone knows that if we play how we know we can, not many will match us.

Peace out!
