QPR Reserves 1-2 Gills Ladies Reserves
Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on March 13, 2011
The Reserves strengthened their grip on the Championship with a 2-1 win away at Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.
Kylie Overton scored twice in the first half to give the Reserves the win before Sophie Fogarty scored a wonder goal in the second half to give QPR hope.
They took the lead in the 18th minute when Liv McGregor played the ball through to Kylie Overton from the midfield. Kylie then took the ball around the defender before slotting into the bottom corner.
Kylie Overton put the Reserves further in front seven minutes later from a Whitney Judd cross. The defender threw the ball to Kirsty Goodall who laid the ball off to Judd who whipped a cross into the box and Kylie got on the end of it to poke the ball home.
On the half hour mark both sides had great chances to score with Kylie Overton hitting the post from a Kirsty Goodall cross, before QPR went up the other end and hit the post as well.
The second half wasn’t anywhere near as an attacking affair as the first half, as the Reserves looked to kill the game off and QPR looked for a way back into the game.
The Gills could have killed the game off in the 55th minute when Whitney Judd missed from close range. It was a difficult chance for the right back who had to hit a shot first time as the ball dropped over her shoulder.
QPR did find a way back into the game in the 75th minute when Sophie Fogarty caught a ball on the volley 25 yards out that rifled into the back of the Gills net.
Despite going all out to try and get something from the game QPR couldn’t fashion a chance on the Gills goal.
The three points adds the gloss to the Gills away campaign as they look forward to their final League game at home to Barnet were they will officially be crowned Champions.
