Gills Ladies Reserves 4-1 Barnet Ladies Reserves

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on March 27, 2011

Gills Ladies Reserves finished their League season with a one hundred percent home record after a 4-1 win over Barnet Reserves on Sunday afternoon.

A first half penalty from Anelle Massey set the Gills on their way before Emma Davies levelled things up early in the second half. Kylie Overton put the Gills ahead with another spectacular effort before substitute Temi added a third and Kylie Overton rounded off the scoring with her second of the match.

The Reserves were on the attack from the kick-off and Kylie Overton had a shot in the opening minute after a good move down the left wing involving Kirsty Goodall and Kim Bolden.

Amazingly there was not another shot on goal until the 14th minute when a cross into the Barnet area saw Kirsty Goodall head on but Kylie Overton couldn’t test the keeper.

In the 20th minute Liv McGregor was upended and Amy Taylor swung the ball into the box but it sailed wide of the keeper’s far post.

Three minutes the same move after a foul on Anelle Massey saw the Barnet keeper Ofosuhema Gyamfi-Kumaning make a great save to keep the scores level.

Just before the half hour mark Barnet fashioned arguably their best chance of the first half when a long ball set Emma Davies away down the right wing. She rounded Sammy Lester but poked her shot straight at Lauren Harris in the Gills goal.

The Reserves took the lead shortly after when a ball was half cleared and it hit an unfortunate defenders hand and the referee awarded a penalty. Anelle Massey stepped up and smashed the ball straight down the middle to make it 1-0.

Barnet could have been back on level terms just two minutes later when a corner was swung in and Lauren Harris punched the ball half clear. It was hit goal wards by Berengere Aitcheson-Walker but she found Whitney Judd on the goal line who hacked the ball clear.

The Reserves remained on top for the rest of the first half but for all their possession they couldn’t quite create a second goal.

Half Time 1-0

The second half began as a battle of the midfield as the Gills tried to create a second goal and Barnet tried to get back on level terms.

It was ultimately Barnet who succeeded as they equalised in the 55th minute. A long ball found Emma Davies in space and she rounded Kim Bolden before firing a good shot low into the far corner past Lauren Harris.

This goal seemed to spur the Reserves on as they wanted to protect their record of having won all their home games this season, and on the hour mark they went ahead again.

Izzy Martin played the ball in to Kylie Overton and she placed a shot straight into the top corner to add to her collection of amazing strikes for the season.

Anelle Massey and substitute Temi went close shortly after, first Massey sent a shot from distance just over before Temi made a driving run and sent her shot wide of the far post.

In the 75th minute the Reserves put the result beyond doubt when Kylie Overton played in Temi, and she drove into the area from the left wing and fired a shot into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later and Temi turned provider as she played in Kylie Overton after yet another run down the left wing. Her cross found Overton in space and she picked out the top corner once again as the Gills rounded the season off in style.

The Reserves finish the season with an impressive home record of P7, W7, D0, L0, F24, A3 to make it an impressive 21 points at home.
