The Midweek Preview: The Magic of the Lights

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on April 19, 2011

The Ladies are in action on Wednesday evening when they take on Charlton Ladies under the floodlights at Martin Grove.

The Firsts have had a week off since they played Cardiff at home in their previous match, and it didn’t go according to plan losing 3-0.

In an honest assessment it wasn’t good enough from Ian Varley’s side as they look over their shoulders at the teams below them.

However, they have had a good weeks training and will be buoyed by the Reserves Cup final victory last Thursday evening, where they had their own team bonding session before the game.

In their two previous meetings this season the Gills have won both games away in the League on the opening day of the season, and in the League Cup group stages a few weeks later.

They left it late in the League before Ashlee Hincks scored the only goal of the game, where Charlton were probably the better side.

In the Cup Gemma Bryan put Charlton ahead and the Gills looked to be heading for defeat until first goals for the Gills for Danielle Carlton and Laura Jeffery put them into the knock out stages.

Since then the Gills have faltered a little whilst Charlton have made a late charge up the lead, which makes Wednesdays game crucial for both teams.
