Ladies blast past Rockettes

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on July 28, 2011

Gillingham Ladies continued their impressive pre-season form with a victory over East Thurrock Ladies tonight.

The Rockettes from the Eastern Region Premier Division travelled to Kent to take on the Gills.

Ian Varley mixed and matched his side with nine first team players still unavailable through injury and holidays.
Charlotte Abbott was on the score sheet with the Ladies first goal of the game and her second goal of pre-season.

It was 2-0 shortly after when Natalie Crinean squared for Charlotte Abbott who fired home her second of the game.

Amy Taylor who has been playing at left back fired home the Gills third before Natalie Crinean made it 4-0 shortly after with her eighth goal of pre-season.

East Thurrocks best chance came late in the first half when they broke through the Gills defence, but Jess Nunn made an excellent save with her legs.

That is how it stayed for the rest of the first half and Ian Varley changed the entire starting eleven in the second hlaf to give everyone a run out.

Four goals were also scored in the second half but only two went to the Gills.

Bryony Smith found the back of the net for the first time for the senior team after coming on as a second half sub.

East Thurrock then pulled a goal back before Jade Johnson fired home to increase the Ladies advantage again. The Rockettes rounded off the nights scoring with their second of the night late on.

Speaking after the game manager Ian Varley, said: “It was another worthwhile run out for both squads which is ideal as we wait for the new reserve manager to take over.

“We’ve seen enough of our players now to start putting together squads for over the next few weeks when both teams have games and its important both teams get plenty of minutes now before the season starts.

“I’d like to thank East Thurrock for providing the opposition and was very impressed with their team. They would more than hold their own in the combination league.”
