Perry on Barnet

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on August 1, 2011

First Team Coach Aaron Perry was pleased with the Ladies run out against Barnet despite the result not quite going in their favour.

Speaking as the players warmed down in the heat at Chatham Town, he said: “I am really pleased with the performance we aren’t worried about the results. We are more worried about how we look and obviously this was our first game at Chatham Town.

“It was nice to be here, the pitch was in nice condition and we have changed our shape for the first half and I thought we were positive. In the first half we tried to play and we have emphasised in pre-season that we want to play to be fair to them the girls did that and we are pleased.”

In the opening twenty minutes when the Gills went 2-0 up the signs were very positive and that is something that the coaching staff will be looking to take forward.

Aaron added: “I thought for the first 17 minutes or so we were exceptional, I thought we passed the ball well and our shape was good and across the pitch we were good for 17-20 minutes.

“To be fair to Barnet they changed their shape and we found it difficult to deal with because we didn’t have as much time but for 20 minutes we were exceptional and we are really pleased with that.”

The Ladies did create chances and that is the main thing heading into the opening games of the season.

Aaron said: “Creating chances is important at any level and for twenty minutes we created a lot but fair play to them they changed the game which is good for them.

“We kept going and in the second half we went 4-4-2 after the goal and the girls did well to continue on. We aren’t worried about results we are worried about the way that we play and how we look after ourselves and we did that well.”

The major positive for the Ladies is the amount of players that have been pushing forward and playing the 90 minutes something Aaron agreed with.

He added: “It is about is looking after ourselves and looking at players and formations and to be fair the gaffer rotated things around a bit and it is nice to see different things. We changed things twice in the game with different personnel and we are working towards the first game of the season. We aren’t going to give too much away and it gives us a chance to look at lots of things.”
