Anchorians 1-4 Gills Ladies Reserves

The Reserves began their pre-season games with a win over a spirited Anchorians side this evening.

Anchorians took the game to the Gills in the early stages and took the lead through Sammy Ryan before the Gills equalised through Whitney Judd before half time.

They ran in three unanswered goals in the second half through Anelle Massey, Amy Russ and Kylie Overton.

The game was played in a good spirit from the off and it was the Gills with the first effort of the game.

Whitney Judd played a ball to Amy Russ she cut inside and shot wide in the second minute.

In the 5th minute Anchorians took the lead when Donna Sutton played in Sammy Ryan and she fired into the bottom corner.

With eight minutes on the clock the Gills had a series of corners but couldn’t find the back of the net with Whitney Judd coming closest.

A minute later a Whitney Judd throw is flicked on by Anelle Massey and Alex Witham fired just wide. A well worked move starting from right back saw Izzy Martin fire at the keeper shortly after.

With 18 minutes gone Liv McGregor was fouled and Anelle Massey sent the free kick straight at the Anchorians keeper.

With 21 minutes on the clock Whitney Judd was put in and drove goal wards but her shot was well saved by the keeper.

On the half hour mark Sammy Ryan struck a shot on goal well wide from just outside of the penalty area for Anchorians.

In the 37th minute Anelle Massey played in Whitney Judd, she drove into the area before firing at the keeper. A minute later Whitney Judd teed up Temi who fires straight at the keeper who makes a good save.

A ball over the top saw Sammy Ryan put through on goal again and with just Helena to beat in the Gills goal, the keeper made herself as big as possible and Ryan flashed the shot wide.

A well worked passing move in the 43rd minute resulted in four touches starting with Kim Bolden at left back and ended with Whitney Judd firing into the bottom corner to make it 1-1.

Half Time 1-1

The first chance of the second half went to Anchorians who fired over Helena’s cross bar from just outside the area.

A handball by Anchorians saw Anelle Massey fire a well struck free kick into the back of the net from 25 yards out round the wall to make it 2-1 in the 49th minute.

On 55 minutes Becky Lyon played a ball out to Izzy Martin, she found Amy Russ who buried her shot into the far bottom corner for 3-1.

On the hour mark Whitney Judd saw her shot go out for a corner, the corner was cleared off the line for another corner but the Gills couldn’t make the pressure count.

In the 64th minute Whitney Judd tore down the right wing once more and crossed the ball for Liv McGregor who fired just wide.

Whitney Judd was fouled on 72 minutes, but she picked herself up and she swung the free-kick in and Temi headed wide of the keepers near post.

On 75 minutes Amy Russ hit a shot that was well saved and Kylie Overton following up turned and hit a shot that somehow found a way into the net under the keeper to make it 4-1.

With the last kick of the game Alex Witham was put through on goal but fired wide after advancing into the penalty area.

It was a useful run out for the Reserves in what was a thoroughly entertaining pre-season friendly from first to last whistle.
