Basildon Ladies 3-2 Gills Ladies Reserves

The Reserves stepped up their pre-season preparations with their second game in a week.
Following hot on the heels of the victory over Anchorians on Wednesday evening, they travelled to Basildon for the second time in two seasons.
Unfortunately they were to fall to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of their hosts but it was another good workout for an under strength Reserve side.
In the 6th minute there was some good play from the Reserves with Kirsty Goodall feeding the ball to Alex Witham she found Liv McGregor but the keeper gathered a tame effort from the Gills.
With ten minutes on the clock Layla Prior was forced into action and made a good save from a Basildon players shot tipping the ball around the post for a corner. The corner was swung into the area and was cleared by Lou Jackson.
In the 20th minute a great through ball was played by Anelle Massey and Izzy Martin latched onto the ball and whipped a cross into the area but the keeper gathered with Alex Witham lurking.
Five minutes later and Anelle Massey was the next to try her luck for the Gills but her shot went over the keepers cross bar.
Just before the half hour mark and a shot from Basildon was tipped round the post by Helena who did well to get down and make a good save.

In the second half the Reserves changed formation and moved to a more conventional 4-4-2 formation and it resulted in five goals in the game.
The first goal came in the 50th minute when Basildon broke down the wing and crossed into the area, with Layla Prior committed centre half Becca tried to clear her lines, in doing so unfortunately she poked the ball into her own net to make it 1-0 to the hosts.
In the 63rd minute Whitney Judd now playing on the right hand side of midfield sent a cross into the area it was fumbled by the keeper. Liv McGregor followed the ball into the area and saw hr shot cleared round the post.
It was 2-0 to Basildon in the 75th minute, again Basildon broke down the wing with some great play and a cross evaded the keeper and defender at the far post and was headed home unopposed by the winger.
The Reserves were back in the game in the 84th minute Whitney Judd again did great down the right wing, crossing the ball for Alex Witham who finished at close range to make it 2-1.
Two minutes later and Basildon restored their two goal advantage when a corner wasn’t cleared and on the edge of the area a Basildon midfielder picked the ball up and lifted it into the top corner.
It was 3-2 with just two minutes of the game left to play, Liv McGregor played a great ball out to Whitney Judd and she hit a cross come shot that was helped into the top corner for her second goal in two games by the keeper.
The Gills could have got a draw from the game with the last move of the match when Alex Witham sent a shot into the side netting after being put through by Whitney Judd.
