Arsenal Reserves 9-1 Gills Ladies Reserves

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on September 4, 2011

The Reserves kicked off their first season in the Reserves Southern Division One with a defeat.

They travelled to Arsenal Reserves for their first game in the division; there can be no tougher start. Arsenal were to come away with all three points thanks to a 9-1 victory.

The opening 25 minutes were a tight affair with chances few and far between but Liv McGregor had the best of the Reserves early chances.

Arsenal were to take the lead before the hour mark. The Reserves were to be on level terms five minutes later when Whitney Judd made it 1-1.

Playing on the right wing Judd spotted the keeper off her line and lobbed her from 30 yards out after being played the ball by Charlotte Abbott.

Arsenal were back in front again soon after before the Reserves were awarded a penalty after a foul on Whitney Judd. Anelle Massey stepped up but saw her penalty go over the bar. Arsenal would go on and score another goal before half time.

The second half showed that Arsenal were far superior in terms of fitness and they went on to run in another six goals.
It was to be a disappointing start to the season for the Reserves but one that they can build from as the season goes on.
