Varley: It was our best performance
Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on September 27, 2011
Manager Ian Varley was pleased to see his side heading back from Keynsham on Sunday afternoon with all three points.
It means that the Ladies are unbeaten away from home in the 2011/12 season with two wins and a draw.
Speaking after the game, Ian said: “Well obviously we would have liked to have taken nine from nine but to take seven in our last three games is very pleasing and something that we haven’t done for a while.
“Without a doubt it was our best performance of the Season. We were very good from start to finish today and it was a real squad effort. It was definitely the best performance and result of the season so far.”
The goals also came from three different scorers and Ian was delighted to see Lauren Phillips and Sarah Jones get on the score sheet for the time this season and in Jonesy’s case first time ever for the Gills.
He added: “It’s not a bad way to get your first goal for the club is it? It was a great strike from Jonesy and that really set us on our way.
“Farms has scored again which is four in five for her and her overall performance today was excellent. I am delighted for Potter and she deserves it as she’s one of the most honest and hard working players in our squad. She always seems to score against Keynsham and hopefully she can kick on now and start scoring on a regular basis.”
Reflecting on the fact the Gills are unbeaten away from home and the confidence it is giving his players, Ian said: “We seem to always do well away from home as even last season we picked up most of our wins away. It’s just important we keep picking up points whether we are home or away.
“The camp is buzzing right now and rightly so. We are hitting form just at the right time with all our players coming back and that just adds to the quality and competition for places.”
