The Midweek Interview with Sarah Quantrill

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on October 26, 2011

Sarah Quantrill is a player who has settled in really well to the Gills set up since joining on loan from Chelsea earlier in the season.

Not only have her performances been top draw on the pitch week in week out, but she has also become a big part of the dressing room off it too.

Speaking about her time at the Gills so far, Sarah said: “I am really enjoying it the girls are great and have made me feel very welcome.

“I knew a couple of the girls already which made it easier for me to settle in. We have had some good results although we were disappointed not to get a win against QPR today.”

Since she has been at the Gills Sarah has pulled off some fantastic saves that most keepers would never get to.

But what does Sarah put it down to is it luck, is it training and coaching or is it a love for a camera save?

She added: “Everyone loves a camera save ha ha, but I have had some good coaches in the past which has really helped.”

The Ladies have now lost one game in their last seven and Sarah has been a major part of the good form shown by the Ladies.

She said: “Yes it is a pretty good record, and there have been some good results in there as well. As a team we have been defending pretty well which has helped us to get the results that we have.

“The girls are working really hard, everyone keeps trying until the final whistle, which has got us a point in the last two games. Our heads never go down and everyone keeps working hard for each other.”

A few weeks ago Sarah earned a call up to the England National set up when she was selected to represent her country at Under 23 level, a proud moment for the Gills custodian.

She added: “It is a great moment; I couldn’t believe it when I got the phone call to tell me. It is my first time of being called up, so I am looking forward to when I go away soon and I can’t wait.”

Finally we caught up with Sarah to get her reaction to Lauren Phillips programme page where she was named as ‘howler of the week’.

She said: “It is all lies; you can’t believe what Potter says she didn’t even come out. She made out she was at work but had plenty of time to get there. Also, I hear that Potter isn’t as innocent as she tries to make out ha ha.”
