Lyon Looks Back

Published by Gillingham Ladies Media on December 22, 2011

Reserve team manager Becky Lyon looks back on a whirlwind few months since taking over the reigns as Ressies manager in October.

Well where do I start!

Firstly this year has probably been one of the most uneasy times the Gills Reserves have ever experienced. They have struggled in every way possible through no fault of their own but yet they have still turned up at every training session and every game with a positive outlook and always worked hard. This is down to pure team spirit and love for the club and team mates.

For me this year has been a massive change, but one that I was happy to take on and have enjoyed every minute. Results haven’t always gone our way and we have held too many teams at a draw as a result we now find ourselves in a very difficult position but looking back over the season and the progress we have made gives us a great boost. I have said this before but I believe that the turning point in our season was away to Watford where we Drew 3-3. There was no way we were leaving that pitch without at least a point! The girls ground out a result and I was so proud of them.

Following on from that, another massive game for us was Arsenal; we had a point to prove. After losing twice already to them this season we wanted and needed to prove our worth and we certainly did that. The previous results were not exactly our proudest moments but to hold them to a draw and going 1-0 up through Livvy was a great achievement for us and it gave us such a boost to know that we can perform at this level and we deserve to be here.

We have had a lot of ups and downs this year and like I’ve said we are going into the New Year in a tough place, this League is so tight. With only two games to go now we are looking to get six points and nothing less. Our aim now is to see this season out and start fresh with everything in place for next year.

The club and the girls deserve to be in this League, and as a team we are proud of what we have achieved so far and myself and the girls will be working hard to get results.

Merry Christmas everyone, have a great time and girls- Make sure you don’t eat to much turkey… please!
