After a goalless first half the game came to life in the second, Amy Taylor gave the Reserves the lead before Brighton equalised only for Whitney Judd to seal the points with 15 minutes to go.

The game started with the Gills on the front foot knowing that three points was the only option if they wanted to do all they could to stay in the Reserves Southern Division One.

There was some great passing out of the back from the Gills but there was a lack of clear cut chances for either side, and the Gills back four stood firm.

Into the second half and a substitution early on by manager Becky Lyon paid dividends when Amy Taylor scored just two minutes after coming on.

A challenge by Kylie Forbitt saw the ball go out for a corner, from the resulting corner Amy Russ’ corner was cleared by the Brighton defence.

The ball went as far as Amy Taylor, who with her first touch slammed a volley into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to the Reserves.

Just after the hour mark a well worked move from Brighton saw them draw level when they slotted home under Jess Nunn in the Gills goal.

The Reserves didn’t let this stop them though as in the 72nd minute they went ahead for the second time in the match.

Temi made a great run on the Brighton goal before firing a shot on goal, she was unlucky to see it come back off the cross bar. She picked the rebound up and volleyed the ball out to Whitney Judd and she calmly headed home to make it 2-1 to the Reserves.

With the final whistle coming it meant the Reserves had now done the double over Brighton this season and in the process given themselves a massive chance of staying in the division. They now have to wait for the results of other teams, and that may take as long as March to know but they can be rightly proud of what they have done in their debut season in the top Reserve league.
Full Time 1-2

Gills: Nunn, Merricks, Jackson, Carlton, Bolden, Russ, McGregor, Judd, Goodall (Taylor, 53) Temi, Overton (Crinean, 80)

They took the lead in the second minute thanks to a great strike from Alex Witham before Charlton equalised through Stef Simmons.

The visitors then went on to take the lead in the second half with Sam Rowland scoring the goal, before the Reserves hit back with a late goal from Temi.

With the original tie being postponed in November the rearranged fixture did not disappoint for the two sides as they served up an entertaining score draw.

Manager Becky Lyon had barely taken her seat in the dugout and her side were going 1-0 up thanks to some fine team play. It started with a great ball from Liv McGregor to Temi, and then again from Temi to Alex Witham. She then fired her bullet shot straight into the top corner from 18 yards out.

They could have gone further ahead in the 10th minute when Whitney Judd saw her effort crash back off the cross bar from an Amy Russ corner.

Charlton began to put some pressure on the Reserves backline and in the 21st minute Megan Chandler forced Jess Nunn into a great save.

Alex Witham then went close again five minutes later but she saw her shot expertly saved by xxx in the Charlton goal, as it looked like it was going to fly into the top corner. Shortly afterwards Whitney Judd broke into the box but saw her effort go slightly wide on the volley.

Jessica Nun was called into action in the 37th minute to make a great save from Stef Simmons after her run saw her into the Gills box.

The final chance of the half fell to the Reserves, some great work between Liv McGregor and Temi saw a Whitney Judd header well saved.

Half Time 1-0

In the second half things didn’t quite go to plan for the Reserves as they conceded two goals and had to come from behind to salvage a deserved point.

Charlton got back into the game with 65 minutes on the clock thanks to an absolutely cracking strike from Stef Simmons that Jess Nunn had no chance with.

Five minutes later and the Reserves were lucky not to find themselves behind for the first time in the game, when Amy Merricks hacked a shot off of her own line.

The Gills did have a number of half chances in the middle of the second half, as Temi fired over and then they missed from six yards as both teams began to tire.

With ten minutes left to go a Temi free-kick was saved by the Charlton keeper, she then sent her team on the attack and the Gills defence was torn apart as Sam Rowland fired home to make it 1-2.

However, the Gills were not to be beaten and their ‘never say die’ attitude came to the fore as they went in search of the equaliser.

It came with just four minutes on the clock, a goal mouth scramble saw the ball fall to the feet of Temi and she made no mistake and slotted home to make it 2-2.

The Reserves still had time for one last chance and a great shot from distance from Amy Russ was comfortably saved by the keeper.

Full Time 2-2

Gills: Nunn, Merricks, Jackson, Lynch, Bolden, Judd, Russ, McGregor, Witham, Goodall (Abbott, 80), Temi

Watford had the first chance of the game when a misplaced pass fell to Watford striker Kirsten Walker who had a shot off target.
There were many chances for both teams throughout the game to take home all three points. Whitney Judd probably had the best effort for Gillingham, while Watford’s best chance came from Elenor Docaragia with only minutes to go.

Gillingham were made to work hard to keep the score levels, which saw them walk away with two bookings as a result of their efforts.

After 12 minutes Watford had a good chance to break the deadlock when Gillingham’s Livvy McGregor’s misplaced pass gave Watford’s forward, Kirsten Walker, the opportunity to shoot from inside the area which went just wide of the near post into the side netting.

Watford dominated the first 20 minutes of play and created most of the chances to score but failed to hit the target. Renne Hector, who had a number of opportunities, fired a shot well wide from outside the area.

Gillingham began to pick it up half way through the first half and began to look more threatening. Gillingham were awarded a free kick and Alex Witham delivery was met by Kylie Overton with a powerful header that was well saved by the Watford keeper.

Gillingham’s defence showed a gritty determination after the referee awarded a number of free kicks to Watford putting Gillingham’s defence under pressure.

Whitney Judd had arguably the best effort on goal from both sides, when the ball sat up invitingly for her 18 yard out. She let fly with a sweetly struck shot which flew just inches over the cross bar.

Just before half time Watford were awarded a corner which was sent high into the six yard box forcing Gillingham to scramble the ball away to safety.

Half Time 0-0

Only a few minutes into the second half it was Gillingham who had the first attempt and looked as though would have the first goal of the game, as Kirsty Goodall fired a shot from inside the area which flew just over the cross bar.

Moments before the hour mark Watford’s, Katie Knell had a good shot from outside the box which was well saved by Jess Nunn in the Gills goal.

The 74th minute saw the games first booking, as Amy Russ was giving a yellow card for an alleged hand ball.

Only moments later Watford came close to a chance, after a few good passes getting them inside the box and keeping Gillingham on their toes, when Sophie Waller then made a hash that saw the shot go wide.

Sure enough, Watford got hold of the ball again, as Katie Knell ran with it, keeping possession past the Gills defence up to the box, until the keeper made the swift decision to dive and snatch it from her feet before she could take a shot.

Reaching the end of the second half, Gillingham were awarded a number of free-kicks, yet, Watford showed a strong defence by managing to keep the ball at the right end of the pitch for them.

With only minutes to go, Watford’s Elenor Docaragia gained possession, raced into the area where she fired a shot straight towards the goal, but it was well saved by Jess Nunn.

Three minutes extra time saw Gillingham get their second booking, as Whitney Judd was cautioned for decent.

Final Score 0-0

Gills: Nunn, Witham (Merricks, 63), Lynch, Jackson, Bolden (c), Judd, Russ, McGregor, Goodall (Taylor, 73), Temi, Overton

She came on as a second half substitute for Kirsty Goodall and netted her third goal in two games.

Whether it was meant is another matter as her cross come shot flew into the back of the net with the aid of the post in the 65th minute.

Enya Lynch came to the Reserves rescue late on, with a late block to ensure that the Reserves preserved their slender one goal advantage, and go home with all three points.

Overall it was a fantastic solid team experience from the Reserves, and it moves them up to joint 5th in the League with West Ham Reserves.

Arsenal are currently top of the League having drawn only one game and winning their other five matches this season.

Liv McGregor put the Gills ahead in the 26th minute with a well taken shot from distance, before Tricia Gould equalised on the stroke of half time.

In the 5th minute Melissa Lawley swung a corner into the box and Nicole McPhee touched onto Zoe Cunningham but as she went to shoot Whitney Judd was on hand to clear the danger.

A minute later Temi was fouled just outside the area and she stepped up and fired her left footed set piece wide of Nicole Adams near post.

In the 11th minute Lawley got in but Kirsty Goodall got back to clear for a corner. Lawley then delivered the corner and Whitney Judd cleared her lines and out for another corner. From that corner Lawley fired wide from 18 yards.

There were 16 minutes on the clock when Temi fed Kylie Overton had a shot it was deflected over the cross bar, Amy Russ’s corner was straight at the keeper.

After 18 minutes Bianca Bragg had a shot well saved by Charlotte Stephens making her debut in the Gills goal.

An Alex Witham free-kick was sent straight at the keeper in the 20th minute from distance after the referee awarded the Gills a free-kick.

The Reserves went ahead in the 26th minute; Liv McGregor picked the ball up and fired into the roof of the net from 20 yards to make it 1-0.

Kimi Bolden tried to repeat her wonder goal of a few weeks back in the 32nd minute when she had an effort on goal from 40 yards, but it drifted out for a goal kick.

Charlotte Stephens then pulled off a great save for a young keeper shortly after from Bianca Bragg to keep the Reserves in the lead.

Shortly before half time Arsenal were back on level terms, a cross into the area found Bragg she laid it off to Tricia Gould who fired home to make it 1-1.

Half Time 1-1

In the second half it was more of the same from both sides in what was a very entertaining game of football.

With 50 minutes gone Lawley crossed from a corner and McPhee fired wide from around six yards out.

A minute later and Lawley crossed and Bragg hooked the ball over her shoulder and straight at Charlotte Stephens.

Alex Witham stepped up and had her second attempt from a free kick at the keeper from 40 yards out shortly after.

Kim Bolden did well to get a block in on Melissa Lawley in the 55th minute but she still got a cross away that evaded Bragg at the far post.

On the hour Kylie Overton picked the ball up shot from distance and Nicole Adams gathered comfortably.

Alex Witham with a free kick into the Arsenal area looking for Whitney Judd and Zoe Cunningham headed just over her own bar.

With 62 minutes gone Charlotte Stephens made yet another great save and from the resulting corner Meaghan Sargeant fired wide.

There was 72 minutes on the clock when Kirsty Goodall was fouled and Alex Witham fired over from 25 yards.

As the game ticked into the final ten minutes Zoe Cunningham sent a free kick into the Gills area and Bianca Bragg couldn’t get a shot on goal.

Great pressure from Whitney Judd saw the sub keeper Scarlett Field make a mistake, Judd then chased the loose ball and got a shot on goal but it went wide of the near post from a difficult angle late on.

It was ultimately the first half that cost the Gills with goals coming from Nicole Matthews, Megan Bradley and Chloe Dale all found the back of the net for Chelsea.

The first run from the game came from the Gills when Amy Russ played the ball to Whitney Judd but her cross went out for a goal kick.

In the third minute Liv McGregor tried her luck from distance, despite the ball being caught up in the wind it went over.

A cross into the Gills box from a free-kick fell to Nicole Matthews who poked home in the area. The lineman raised his flag for offside but the ref gave the goal and it 0-1 after five minutes.

In the eighth minute Temi set Liv McGregor away but her deep and searching cross couldn’t find anyone in the area.

Kylie Overton forced a Chelsea defender into a mistake shortly after but Steph Abbott came out to deal with any danger.

A corner into the Gills box wasn’t dealt with and Megan Bradley with a shot that bobbles in the area and finds the back of the net via a deflection to make it 0-2.

Twenty minutes in and Jess Nunn had to dive full stretch to prevent a header from goal scorer Megan Bradley extending Chelsea’s lead.

A cross from Kylie Overton and Temi rose highest in the area but forced the keeper into a good save. From the resulting corner Lou Jackson headed against a Chelsea player in the 27th minute.

With 31 minutes gone a cross into the Gills area saw Nicole Matthews unmarked and she headed wide with just Jess Nunn to beat.

There were 32 minutes on the clock and Katie Kingshott saw her long range shot come back off the post and away to safety.

Shortly after Drew Spence played in Matthews and she attacked the Gills area unleashing a shot that curled round the far post.

It was 0-3 to Chelsea when Megan Bradley was played the ball on the edge of the area and her shot went in off the post.

In the 36th minute a cross into area and again Nicole Matthews unmarked forced a great save from Jess Nunn.

Just on half time a ball flashed across the Gills six yard box and Matthews put the ball over from under the crossbar, when it looked like being a certain goal.

Half Time 0-3

The second half was much improved for the Ladies as they more than matched their higher placed opponents.

The first action of the second half was a long ball over the top and Jade Rhodes on as a second half substituted fired over from 18 yards out.

On the hour mark Amy Russ had the Reserves first shot on goal for the half but it went straight at the keeper from distance.

In the 66th minute substitute Jade Rhodes broke into the area and Alex Witham got back with a great last ditch challenge to clear the ball over the bar for a corner.

With 82 minutes on the clock and Whitney Judd was obstructed just outside the Chelsea area. It was the midfielder herself who stepped up and touched the indirect free-kick to Temi, before getting the ball back only to see her effort come back off the wall.

With two minutes left to go Drewe Spence picked the ball up in midfield and fired over from distance with a great strike.

Full Time 0-3

Half hour in and Temi fired over the bar after being played in 18 yards out, shortly after and Levi Chambers-Cook let fly with a shot from distance that found the side netting.

After 37 minutes Brighton could have got on the score sheet when Naomi Robinson with a deep cross and Libby Pritchard shot just wide of Jess Nunn’s far post.

It was 3-1 shortly before half time a ball from deep found Robinson unmarked and although Jess Nunn got her hands on her shot it found the back of net.

Straight from kick-off and an Amy Taylor cross was almost headed in by Kylie Overton but the ball was cleared by the Brighton defence.

Half Time 3-1

The second half was just a minute old when Libby Pritchard swung a free kick into Gills area and Darcey James headed wide unmarked.

A ball from the back sets Temi free but Lucy Mangan makes a great save from Temi’s shot as she bore down on goal.

In the 65th minute Amy Taylor was fouled, Anelle Massey stepped up and fired the free kick wide.

A brace from Kylie Overton and a goal late on from Whitney Judd were enough to net the Ladies their third point of the season.

The Reserves took the lead through Kylie Overton in the 20th minute when Temi held the ball up well. She waited for Kylie Overton to make her run timed the ball to perfection and she rounded the keeper and slotted home.

It was 1-1 just three minutes later however when Watford were played on side and they worked the ball well to round Jess Nunn and slot into an empty net.

Just before half time Watford went ahead for the first time in the match when the Reserves cleared to the edge of the area, it fell to a Watford player who fired into the back of the net to make it 2-1.

Watford could have been further ahead but for some outstanding saves from Jess Nunn who kept her side in the game.

In the second half the Reserves equalised with an almost carbon copy of their opening goal of the game.

Again Temi held the ball up well on the right wing and waited for Kylie Overton to make her run, she again raced into the area rounded the keeper and slotted home to make it 2-2.

With four minutes on the clock it looked like the Ladies could be going home empty handed when Watford took the lead following a scramble in the Gills box.

However, in injury time the hard working Gills got the goal and the point that their efforts over ninety minutes.

Temi again was the provider as she played the ball into the path of Whitney Judd. She raced away down the right wing and with the defender at her side and the keeper racing out to meet her, did well to chip the keeper and make it 3-3.

Full Time 3-3

Gills: Nunn, Witham (Chater, 50), Lester, Jackson (Lynch, 30), Bolden, Goodall (Judd, 75), McGregor, Massey, Abbott, Temi, Overton

Emma Harrison gave West Ham the lead midway through the first half before extending their lead shortly before half time. Whitney Judd slotted home to get the Ladies back into the game early in the second half.

The Gills started brightly and in the second minute Sammy Lester’s ball over the top set Kylie Overton away but she couldn’t get a shot on target.

West Ham’s first chance in the game came in the fourth minute when Fran Tye’s ball over the top was collected by Ruby Southgate but she couldn’t get an effort on goal.

Shortly after Southgate was involved again as she played in Rogers and her shot came back off the bar before a long range effort was palmed down by Layla Prior. Rogers slid in and challenged Prior but nothing came of the incident.

Prior was in the wars not long after that when Sammy Lester fouled Emma Harrison, Victoria King sent the free-kick into the box and Prior gathered the ball but collided with a West Ham player at the same time.

From then on both sides enjoyed a spell of possession without creating any clear cut shots on goal until the 23rd minute.

A cross field pass from right to left found Emma Harrison in space and she raced into the area and fired a shot into the top corner to make it 1-0.

The Gills had a great chance in the 26th minute when good interplay between Amy Russ and Ky Overton saw Whitney Judd get in. She was inside the 18 yard area but saw her shot saved by Katie Duffy in the West Ham goal, not that it would have counted as the linesman flagged for offside.

West Ham went 2-0 up when Emma Harrison found space from a throw in and advanced to the edge of the area before curling a shot into the top corner.

Half Time 0-2

In the second half the Gills came out with renewed vigour and took the game to West Ham in an effort to get back into the game.

They did just that in the 53rd minute when Kylie Overton slotted in Whitney Judd and she made no mistake with her shot, slotting into the bottom corner from 12 yards out to make it 1-2.

Around the hour mark Ruby Southgate tried her luck from distance on two occasions but found Layla Prior equal to her efforts.

With 73 minutes on the clock Kylie Overton was put in on goal by Temi, but she saw her attempted lob saved by Katie Duffy.

Five minutes later Whitney Judd went close from a free kick dead centre of goal twenty yards out, seeing it go just over the cross bar. Shortly after that Temi went close when she fired over the bar from just outside the area.

West Ham had a couple of chances late on in the game when Ruby Southgate couldn’t find the target and then Kiran Hare fired into the side netting.

With two minutes left Amy Russ sent a cross into the West Ham box and Jess Nunn rose highest but couldn’t direct it on goal.

A minute later a Kimi Bolden cross into the area was headed at the keeper by Ky Overton but she was under pressure from Lauren White.

Full Time 1-2

Gills: Prior, Lester (Temi, 45), Bolden, Jackson L, Lynch, Judd, Goodall (Nunn, 78), Witham, Overton, Russ, McGregor

West Ham: Duffy, King, Torry, Houliham, White, Bottom, Tye, Rogers, Harrison, Southgate, Laudat

Temi and Jess Chater had put the Ladies 2-0 up before two late goals from Ashleigh Harris and Gabby Bird gave the visitors a share of the points.

After four minutes a Kim Bolden free-kick was swung into the box and was almost met at the far post by Kirsty Goodall.

Six minutes in and Abby Reynolds set Gabby Bird in the area but she hit a weak shot at Layla Prior.

After ten minutes Whitney Judd sent a corner into the Bristol area, Lou Jackson rose highest and headed at Abby Evans in the Bristol goal.

With 14 minutes gone a cross came into the Gills box and Kim Maggs fired over from 12 yards out, shortly before Lou Jackson had put a block in to stop Abby Reynolds from scoring.

Eighteen minutes were on the clock when Liv McGregor drove from midfield before crossing for Temi who tried to set Amy Russ but the ball was cleared from danger.

A minute later Temi was fouled and Whitney Judd sent the ball into the box. It came back across but nor Temi or Kirsty Goodall could get on the end of it.
